To the girl who crashed her bike going across the tram tracks on Fairview Ave. next to Duke’s Seafood: you are not alone, and I hope you are okay. The exact same thing happened to me on Friday as I had no choice but to cross the tram tracks due to the Rapid Ride construction going through Eastlake.
Luckily, I got away with some holes in my pants and some gnarly road rash, but nothing worse. This is a significant public health issue in Seattle that is super concerning, as I see people crash in that spot during my commute almost daily. I know that this can definitely be avoided by going perpendicular across the tracks, but sometimes it’s hard to think while navigating a construction area and rush-hour traffic. Have any other local cyclists had this experience? It’s really scary and makes me wary to get back on the road.
I found this article showing that this is a global issue.
