I am once again asking you to stop waving left-turning drivers through stopped traffic.
Seattle drivers, all told, are actually really good compared to the many other cities and rural areas I’ve driven in.
However, I do notice a dangerous habit of drivers trying to coax left-turners through a line of stopped cars when there is moving traffic in the second oncoming lane.
Today I was trying to turn left into Ballard Market and the car in front of me nearly got its shit wrecked as they were waved through by a stopped car in the leftmost northbound lane, only to narrowly avoid being T-boned by a car coming up the right northbound lane.
Only moments later, a different car actually held up traffic in its lane trying to let me through when I couldn’t see the other northbound lane, and the driver seemed irate that I was unwilling to blindly drive into a similar situation.
Please stop doing this.
It’s great to leave a clear intersection. It’s great to let left turning drivers in, but for fuck’s sake do not wave a left-turning car through unless traffic is visibly stopped in ALL oncoming lanes.
Being waved on can short-circuit even the most cautious driver’s judgement.
