Howdy Y’all, On Saturday we had the first inaugural Super Saunter and it was amazing! Despite the type of rain the rest of the country thinks we experience daily, maybe some 200-300 folks showed up on the day to walk the length of the city. Maybe nothing has filled me with as much pride to call Seattle home than seeing folks persevere through the conditions and have so much fun doing it. Saunters came from Bremerton (and probably farther), saunters came with their kids/dogs, saunters came with cerebral palsy, saunters came having never done anything like this before. Young, old, experienced, brand new to long distance walking it didn’t matter. Some of you all came alone and left with new friends, and some of you all came with others and left with memories. You saw the city in a way that you might otherwise not have seen, you experienced Seattle in a way you might otherwise not have experienced. It never got old hearing “oh I never knew this place existed,” or “I have never noticed that before.” But maybe nothing brought as much joy as hearing “we should do this again next year.” A couple of random highlights: -Making a line out the door for Zylberschtein’s up in North Seattle -Having a dude run up to me in Roosevelt and hand me a Cookie -The random Koi pond on University Way -Walking next to this quiet woman who became the belle of the ball when she ran into her church group in the arboretum -Having our citywide city councilmember, Alexis Mercedes Rinck, walk the entire length of the city. Really so much respect for her -Having such a sizeable group finish together and hearing folks who had never met became friends over the course of the journey So thankful for everyone who came out and made it such a special day, we hope to do this next year as well as do some saunters in the meantime in case folks missed this one or are looking for more. Special shoutout to Masa Nagane and Andrzej Montaño for their wonderful photos of the event. Lastly, shoutout to reddits very own walking celebrity u/niff314 for participating, I know it was fun for a lot of folks (including myself) to see her.
