Northern Hawk Owl vs Great Horned Owl ID ?

Hi fellow bird-nerds, I just had an owl fly a few feet over my head (completely silently and with a 4’ wingspan !) after watching it sit on the utility cables outside my house – watching me watching it back @ 3am right here in the actual city-city.

My only question is how rare is it for a Northern Hawk to be this far south of its range ? Pretty sure it was a hawk bc first thing I noticed was how long it’s tail was (and Great Horneds are more football-shaped – this guy was more crow-shaped but significantly bigger in all size dimensions).
