Evening Safety Question

I am going to attend the Gillian Welch/David Rawling Zootunes show next Thursday, 6/26. I have no desire to be driving and parking around there so my plan is to take light rail to UW District station and walk from there. It is only about 1.6 miles each way.

I am an old retired man and my wife believes this will be too dangerous. I disagree. But neither of us really knows what we are talking about. Does anyone have an informed opinion about this? Like I say I am inclined to do the walk both ways and I am not particularly worried about getting mugged.
