I just saw this video of ICE agents masking up with no badges and surrounding a car while brandishing their weapons with a clear intent to intimidate. DHS arrives and de-escalates the ICE agents, but clearly does not stand up to them apart from that – no asking for their identification or badges to ensure that they are who they claim to be. No questioning of the agents who were surrounding the car and detaining him, or asking about why they were brandishing a weapon.
We’ve had ICE acting beyond the limits of their authority, not presenting badge numbers when asked as is required by law, brandishing weapons when there is no threat to them, illegally stopping people and frankly acting like cartel members.
What I’d like to know is, when ICE starts doing this in our backyard, will you defend us from them? What are the ramifications for police officers who stand up to ICE? Does the chief of police have your back in that situation, or do they reprimand you?
