This is a message to Jessica, who I met on July 1st, sitting on beacon avenue bridge ledge around SoDo at 9:51 PM.
I’m the guy you shared your story and pain with. I hope this message reaches you, just so you know—it wasn’t me who saved a life. It was you. There’s a part of you that still wants to live, even after everything you’ve been through.
I may have pulled you off that ledge, but it was you who let that happen. Please don’t give up, because ending your life would only continue the hurt others have caused you. Others may not have cared, but you should care about yourself, Jessica.
Live for you. Day by day. Because Jessica matters. Jessica still wants to live, despite the trauma, pain, and betrayal. Do it for yourself. If you don’t care for yourself, that would be heartbreaking—especially for the part of you that still believes in life.
That’s all I want to share—to remind Jessica that even in a world full of suffering, you still have a reason to live. You matter. Your existence is needed, no matter how others have mistreated you.
I know for a fact your life has changed someone’s for the better—mine. Meeting you that night changed me forever. It was a blessing. Without even trying, you taught me something about life that I’ll carry with me always.
Thank you for letting me listen. For letting me hold you as you cried. You could have left me with the trauma of witnessing something I could never forget—but you didn’t. You didn’t give in. That means something. It shows you’re someone who doesn’t want to pass on pain, like others have done to you.
Thank you for existing, Jessica. Thank you for letting me be there in your darkest moment. And thank you for staying. If you hadn’t, I would have been one more person broken by the pain others caused you. By staying, you chose to not let Jessica be forgotten.
And your son—he will never forget his mom. As a son myself, I know a mother’s love is the purest thing in this world. A mother who carries, births, and cares for a child has a love that’s unconditional. His existence is a blessing to you, and you are a blessing to him.
So live, Jessica. For yourself. For your son. For the love that still exists in your life. Don’t leave this world because of those who failed to love you. Stay because of the love you still have—for yourself and your son. You are both part of each other, and that love is worth fighting for.
If you read this—or if anyone knows a Jessica who grew up in Hawaii, moved to Seattle, and is 30 years old—please reach out to me.
Let me know if you’d like this shortened further, formatted into a letter, or turned into something you can post or read aloud.
