If you’re interested in volunteering but haven’t found a nearby group, there are groups all around the city this Saturday with One Seattle Day of Service. The map showing all the groups is here. These are just a few of the groups that could use more help:
- SW Queen Anne Greenbelt (connected to Kinnear Park): Trail restoration
- Freeway Park in First Hill: Cleanup (with snacks and cold drinks)
- Pratt Park between Yesler and Jackson: Cleanup (with Temple Pastries!? and coffee)
- Schmitz Preserve Park in West Seattle: Park restoration
- Georgetown cleanup
- SODO cleanup near Jack’s BBQ
If there isn’t a group near you, check back later in the week or consider checking out Green Seattle Partnerships for some parks-related groups.
I’m just a volunteer, not anyone officially associated with it. I’ve worked with many of these groups over the last couple of years and it’s satisfying to contribute to my community while exercising and meeting people. It’s also special to go back and see the parks I’ve worked on and how they’ve progressed since.
