Seattle appreciation post

I see a lot of appreciation posts from tourists and visitors, but can I just list out a few things that immediately popped out to me this week?

I turned in my voting ballot last night, and it made me realize that Seattle has by far the least annoying voting process I’ve ever experienced. It’s super convenient, the pamphlets allow me to get a read of particular positions or candidates, and if I manage to be a goof and forget to mail it in time, there’s numerous ballot drop box locations nearby for me to return the ballot to.

I rode the bus home this week. Yes, it has a lot of room for improving the routes, but the availability of public transit immediately makes this such an appealing city for someone who despises driving.

The embracing of the “weird” is so normalized here. I’m from the Midwest, and it was such a culture shock to come to a city that has such a rich diversity of hobbyist groups. Everyone is unique and Seattle has this culture of embracing the uniqueness of each person. I’ve seen silent reading meetups, crotchet meetups, a “meetup” to race the 8 bus, and all sorts of things that were just absent from where I grew up.

I’m from the suburbs, and it was typical for people to be into “lawn care” and maintaining grass lawns, but i love how many people here are so appreciative of the gorgeous nature in and around the city, and generally do a good job to respect nature. I also see a ton of moss yards and flowering plants that support bees!

Yes, we have many problems that are or aren’t unique to Seattle, but there is no other city in the US I’d rather reside in. Thank you all for making this city feel like home.
