SPD arrested an innocent man and kept him in jail for a month

“Shi spent nearly a month in the King County Jail until prosecutors dropped the charges on Friday and he was released.

Defense attorneys Brooks de Peyster and Rebecca Bradlow accused Seattle police of arresting Shi “based off a rushed and racist misidentification,” according to the objection to probable cause filed with the court. The Police Department has not directly responded to that allegation, either in a Saturday statement or a statement posted to its online blotter Monday.”

“Police repeatedly ignored exculpatory evidence and prosecutors failed to demand a more thorough investigation before filing charges that could jeopardize Shi’s employment and right to remain lawfully in the U.S., the statement says.
