Request transfer unit due to respiratory sensitivity to very old and worn carpet. (Lived here for 5 years, the carpet was old even when I moved in)
Transfer approved, current unit lease end on 21st and new lease was supposed to start on 12th (overlapping).
On 7th went to check the new unit, found carpet throughout as opposed to “wood style flooring” shown on the website, emailed management. They agreed to change the flooring.
Started multi-date back and forth emails asking when would the new unit be ready, only got answer on 19th that unit would be ready on 21st. Scheduled my move on 22nd with moving company.
On 21st went into the unit and found it is still being painted, asked for credit for the 21st.
Finished moving on 22nd, tired as hell, sat for half an hour, found the strong chemical oder unbearable (likely Formaldehyde/VOCs off-gassing). Burning throat, coughing, watery eyes, skins irritation…. Unable to sleep in new unit, slept on the floor in the old unit since they extend the old lease for 2 more day.
What is my option, am I totally screwed?
