Ballard Goodwill evacuated due to fake bomb

My girlfriend works there, and she just got home from work, and someone dropped off some kind of fake bomb in donations, and they had to stand outside for an hour while the bomb squad came to deal with it.

She described the thing as being a little bit comical… fake sticks of dynamite in a fancy briefcase with wires and a clock. Looking like a cartoon bomb.

Apparently, the bomb squad took a look at it, and said, “Nope” and they were able to get back inside.

It did, however, take the bomb squad about an hour to get there, so the building had to be evacuated while they came to do their thing.

There was also some kind of fire response a bit south of her work at around the same time, and I don’t know if that impacted the response time of the bomb squad. But I did get an alert from King County Metro that the 28 was rerouted due to an “emergency response”. So, it was a fairly exciting place to be for a while.

My girlfriend speculates that they can look at the security cameras from the donations line to probably figure out who dropped it off. If I had to guess, I’d say it was just a prop or a toy or something and the person who dropped it off was just getting rid of it. But I think he’s gonna have some splainin to do.
