Just here to post another Henry’s Gymnasium complaint.
I think Henry’s might actually be some kind of psychological torture experiment to punish people who unwittingly walk through their doors to ask about memberships.
Their sales tactics to get you to sign their year long gym membership contracts can only be compared to the never ending timeshare presentation episode of South Park, except the pitch is given by an unnecessarily aggressive roided out gym manager. Like an idiot, I gave in and signed, partly to shut them up, but mostly because it seemed like a good gym opening directly across the street from my apartment (Boylston loc).
I like many, foolishly did not read all the fine print on the contract, which I’ll admit is funny if you’re not me, the member, trying to cancel. Also note: my year long contract automatically switches to month-month at the end of 12 months and maintains the same cancellation policy…
Cancellation is only allowable under the following circumstances:
- You DIE or become TOTALLY disabled
- Henry’s closes 100% of it’s facilities
- You move 25+ miles away from any location
In other words, Henry’s policy is die, become totally disabled, or get out of town.
I moved so I’m cancelling – they made me mail my signed lease to their accounting dept (insane), which I did, even though it explicitly states in contract that I should be able to cancel in the facility I signed up in, so that’s just a lie.
Now they’re asking for a $600 cancellation fee before my cancellation can be proceessed. That shit ain’t happening. Drawing a line in the sand.
Henry’s charged me for 4 months after I cancelled with my new lease and would have continued if I hadn’t disputed with my bank. Does ANYONE know if the one-click to cancel FTC ruling thing could help? Would love to lawyer-up and get money back from the 4 months they charged me AFTER cancelling
