okay so apparently houses here need completely different maintenance than houses in southern california. who knows. not me when i bought one.
had a contractor out to look at some cracked caulking around windows and he started talking about weather resistant barriers and tyvek and flashing and i just nodded like i understood any of those words.
he was nice about it but definitely gave me the “oh honey” look when i said i didnt know houses needed to breathe or whatever.
what else should i know? ive lived in dry climates my entire life. the concept of a house slowly rotting from moisture exposure is genuinely new information. is there like a pacific northwest homeowner orientation i missed?
also if anyone has a good contractor recommendation for the eastside who doesnt mind explaining things to clueless transplants, I’m all ears. the guy i talked to refered sfw construction does a lot of work around bellevue but i dont know anything else and i want more options.
