If you’re looking for something positive to do right now, check out this out:
This bill would require private detention centers to communicate with local health and law agencies in a timely manner. Safety incidents must be reported by the end of the next business day, healthcare standards must be upheld, and tools for detainee communication/visitation must be accessible. There’s a lot packed into this bill, check it out.
Even if a private detention facility chooses not to comply with these standards, it would be good to have this legislation in place. (And it does not apply to facilities operating under a contract in effect prior to 2023, but we absolutely need this for the future).
I know this starts in half an hour, but consider testifying virtually, or submitting a comment in support.
