Hello neighbors to the South – I live in Bellingham and am part of a volunteer group working to help families of detainees in the immediate aftermath of an abduction. Typically it’s food/rent assistance/legal counsel etc.
Last Thursday, one of our Venezuelan neighbors was taken by ICE. He came here legally and has documentation. He missed an immigration court date because he was homeless- which there is record of his stay at a shelter. He was attempting to follow the law, by attending his traffic court appointment. And was abducted 300m from district court, in direct violation of COTA.
He has been in detention less than 4 days, and is now being sent back to Venezuela without a hearing. He left fearing for his life based on governmental persecution- and was in the process of filing for amnesty. His fiance has been told he will be deported on a flight to Venezuela at 3 am tomorrow (Tuesday).
We are hoping to find an emergency contact number with the governor or AGs office, or any other entity to help him and to stay his deportation.
