Weird Noises from Lake Sawyer

i recently went to Lake Sawyer at night and was admiring thr view for about 5 minutes when my dog started staring at me all scared. this dog is fearless so took my headphones out and I heard an audible relarively loud gasping noise like someone was kayaking towards me or struggling to breathe somehow. It stopped for about 20 seconds. When I heard something behind me rustling what I assume was a deer. Immediately upon turning around from the right side of the lake about 50 feet from me I hear a distincting Kerplunk noise that can be made from throwing a large rock in a lake. It repeats every 5 seconds or so and appears to be coming closer. I don’t hesitate I start getting up to leave and my dog who has chased bears and deer with zero fear starts running to leave. I have never ran home faster in my life. i think it was a territorial Elk or something. Do they do that? i don’t think I’m sleeping tonight…
