Seattle police say a man is in critical condition following an exchange of gunfire with officers in the Ballard neighborhood.
According to authorities, officers located the suspect after receiving a report that he was following an 18-year-old woman near a QFC on 24th Avenue Northwest. When confronted near Northwest 62nd Street and 28th Avenue Northwest, police say the man pulled a gun and fired at an officer after being ordered to show his hands.
Three officers returned fire, striking him multiple times. Police provided first aid at the scene before transporting him to Harborview Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
One officer sustained a minor injury and was taken to a local hospital, treated, and released.
Court documents indicate the suspect had an active extraditable warrant out of Kansas for rape and other violent crimes, along with a criminal history dating back to the 1990s.
