Washington State’s governor signed the SB5106 bill on the first day of Ramadan that officially recognizes both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, making Washington the first state to do so.
What was impressive was that the bill passed with overwhelming support:
- WA Senate: 47–1
- House: passed with a strong majority
Given the amount of anti-Muslim rhetoric that’s been getting louder lately, it’s nice to see something positive and inclusive coming out of our state and communities. To all the Muslims in Seattle and the surrounding area — we see you.
