***URGENT action alert*** Please contact your representative TODAY to ask them vote NO on concurrence of the senate amendments to HB 2266.

The HB 2266 bill just passed the senate yesterday and it will be voted on again next week. Please contact your representative TODAY to ask them vote NO on concurrence of the senate amendments to HB 2266 for the following reasons:

  • The Senate’s “self-certification” model allows providers to bypass meaningful local oversight. Progressive housing policy must ensure that every facility is safe, 24/7 staffed, and accountable. Allowing developers to “self-police” their operational plans is a recipe for neglect.
  • By removing the ability for cities to negotiate robust Operating Agreements, the bill makes it harder to ensure that mental health and addiction services are integrated into the housing. We need supportive housing, not just “beds.” Without guaranteed services, we are not solving the crisis; we are merely hiding it.
  • The bill mandates that cities allow these facilities but provides no new state funding for the social workers, medical responders, and transit improvements needed to make them successful. This places an unfair burden on local budgets, often at the expense of other vital social programs.
