Okay, so I need some real advice from people who actually know this industry in Seattle because I’m hitting a wall and I think I’ve finally figured out why.
Here’s the situation: I just moved to Seattle with my partner. Fresh start, new city, and a few local connections. Exciting, but also kind of terrifying when you’re trying to get back into work.
My background is solid. For years I was juggling service industry jobs alongside film work. Sometimes even at the same time. I’ve kept in touch with basically all my former managers and they’d vouch for me in a heartbeat.
I’m an experienced server and bartender, and honestly at this point I’m more than happy to barback or wash dishes just to get my foot in the door somewhere good.
But here’s the problem: interviews absolutely wreck me.
The second I’m sitting across from someone in a formal Q&A setting, my brain just goes offline. I freeze, I overthink every word, and I come across as someone completely different from who I actually am on the floor. All that experience and reliability just… doesn’t translate. I leave almost every interview knowing I bombed it, despite being genuinely good at the job. Some I’ve managed to pull off because they felt more natural, but still no call backs.
So I’m asking the people who actually know how this industry works in this city: any advice? Thanks in advance. Delete if not allowed!
