To the people treating Downtown/Belltown like a Fast & Furious set: Give it a rest.

Is anyone else absolutely fed up with the state of our streets lately? I’m currently writing this at 3:08 AM while listening to what sounds like a sustained explosion three blocks away.

I don’t know when “main character syndrome” became the official traffic law of Seattle, but the constant illegal street racing, 3 AM burnouts, and donuts in the middle of major intersections have become a literal nightmare. It’s not just a weekend thing anymore; it’s every single night at all hours.

We get it—you have a loud exhaust and you figured out how to use your e-brake. Truly, we are all very impressed. But some of us actually live here. We have jobs, we have kids, and we have a basic expectation that the street outside our apartments isn’t going to be used as a private drift track by someone who clearly has a $2,000 car and $0 worth of consideration for others.

The “sideshow” culture has moved from empty parking lots straight into the heart of downtown, and it’s a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt or killed because of a botched donut at a red light. The revving for attention at 3 AM doesn’t make you look cool; it just makes everyone within a ten-block radius hope your head gasket blows.

I’m tired of the noise, I’m tired of the tire marks, and I’m tired of the complete lack of enforcement. This city is starting to feel like a lawless playground for anyone with a loud muffler and a fragile ego.

I know cities are loud, but there’s a difference between ‘urban hum’ and a burnout 20 feet from my front door.

End of rant. I’m going back to bed, or at least I’m going to try to.
