On March 27, Aria Fani, associate professor of Middle Eastern languages and cultures at UW, was removed from his position as director of the Middle East Center (MEC) at UW’s Jackson School of International Studies. The firing came after what Fani described as weeks of online harassment against him by conservative agitators, and was nominally in response to Fani’s use of the center’s Listserv email newsletter to share his views condemning the United States and Israel’s ongoing war in Iran.
