We recently ate at west Seattle’s Salty’s restaurant and were surprised that they added a 4% surcharge onto the bill. (This was already about $400 for three people without any alcohol.)The receipt stated that none of the surcharge goes to the server or staff. It 100% goes to the restaurant.
I don’t know about you, but this strikes me as deceptive and left us feeling like we got a bit tricked. When is this practice going to be illegal? Shouldn’t they only be allowed to charge you the price that they tell you is the price?
