SEAFAIR WEEKEND IS CLEARED FOR TAKEOFF. We’ve hit pause on most major Seattle-area roadwork for Seafair weekend, but the skies won’t be the only thing that’s busy. Expect heavy traffic weekend traffic, especially around Seafair events. Here’s your pre-departure briefing for getting around the greater Puget Sound: The I-90 bridges will be open across Lake Washington. But here’s the deal… “open” does not mean that this is where we stop, stand, shimmy, or gander at the pretty blue angels in the sky. Now repeat it back to me “I will NOT stop along the I-90 Trail during the Seafair shows.” Revive I-5 work over the Ship Canal Bridge is still ongoing. The express lanes are northbound 24/7. Expect very heavy traffic, especially along I-5 in and out of Seattle. If you’ve got a game or concert on the itinerary, consider arriving by bike, bus or light rail. Plan extra time Saturday, Aug. 1. From 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., two right lanes of the westbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge and the Jackson Avenue on-ramp to westbound SR 16 will close while crews perform emergency reinforcement of previous bridge joint repairs. Travelers in the South Sound should also plan ahead. The Tribal Canoe Journey to Nisqually is expected to increase traffic Friday through Sunday around DuPont, JBLM and Nisqually.
