City Council ceremony interrupted by Councilmember Juarez hot mic: “Seattle City Police Chief Shon Barnes who lost his job last week, secured himself a VERY generous severance package…”

Councilmember Deborah Juarez joined today’s City Council meeting by zoom, and during a plaque presentation she apparently un-muted herself by accident and said:

“Seattle City Police Chief Shon Barnes who lost his job last week, secured himself a VERY generous severance package on the way out, maybe this is just how it’s done now. Incredible, if you haven’t seen the numbers.”

It’s unclear who she was talking to (someone else in the room with her, or on another call?).

Nothing particularly scandalous — even with the snide tone, everything she said was just factually true! — but it was funny when it happened.
