I’ve mentioned this several times before over the years, but Lauren Davis has been trying to ban cannabis concentrates and cartridges for years.
Her latest attempt from the 2023-2024 biennial session, HB 1642, would have capped THC percentages at 35%, outright banning anything above that.
At the same time she introduced a separate bill to hedge against the first one. This second bill would merely raise taxes from 37% to 50% on concentrates from 35-50% THC and the tax would be 65% on THC levels above 50%.
In the current 2025-26 biennial session, she is again currently trying to raise the tax rate to 50% for cannabis with THC over 35%.
She has a history of trying to ban concentrates extending back to her first session in the legislature in 2019-20:
I figured it was worth calling attention to that since, previously, I had been told by users on here that it would be useful to have this information in the lead up to election day.
I’ll also mention that she’s the primary sponsor on a bill to give juvenile firearm offenders more leniency, too, while funding it by charging everyday Washingtonians $100 more for any concealed pistol license in the current legislative session.
