I think after I speak with BECU tomorrow, I’ll be closing my account and switching fully to Ally which is a shame given that I love supporting local credit unions. But for the 5th largest credit union in the country, this is a joke. First image I shared is a screenshot of text notifications from my bank asking if I authorized a spending charge in Michigan last week (not me) which locked my card and then again today for $7.14. I check my account because I realized I need to order a new card (this account is primarily for direct deposit and automatic billing) and saw that two pending charges (that went through) of $836.96 and $52.38. Hence, the second pic. Also included are two new pending charges for Best Buy and Walmart that are not mine lol. The most jarring thing is that I received no text authorization from BECU regarding a $800 purchase but I did for $7.14? All this while my card has been locked since last week. I called BECU and since it’s after hours, I was connected with another company who told me that my card was indeed locked and that she didn’t know why I didn’t receive notification about those charges and to contact the Fraud Department when they’re open again. This happened to me when someone stole my card from me in Philly three years ago – I got the $100 back which BECU helped with. However, I truly cannot comprehend how I didn’t receive a flag given that I don’t make large online purchases with my checking account/debt card for these reasons AND when my card is locked. Again, not impressed with BECU’s security in this case. Just wanted folks to be aware that this could happen to them also :/ submitted by /u/malsary |
