Serious question: how do I get this car out of my driveway??!

Ok, so, I own a townhouse in a two-unit Capitol Hill house. One of those boxy ones. It’s got a driveway with three spots. I own one of the spots.

Somebody parked a rental car in my spot last night, and they haven’t come back to pick it up 24 hours later. I think it’s a rental because it’s got those “$400 fine for smoking” stickers on all the windows.

So, I called parking enforcement. They won’t do anything because it’s fully on private property. Fair enough.

I called about fifteen different towing companies, who all told me I either needed a pre-existing contract with signs or needed to call parking enforcement. However, as stated, parking enforcement won’t get involved since it’s not public property.

I have no HOA, or any management company, or anything like that. It’s just a townhouse with a shared driveway and a spot I own… and because it’s shared, apparently, that means no one can tow it.

However, last time this happened, I went through this exact same process and finally found a company who would come tow it. I’m sure I’ve called the same company at this point because I’ve called all of them, I think. I found the magic words last time, but this time, I’m totally failing. Everyone says the same thing, no contract, too much liability.

Am I saying the wrong things to the towing companies or parking enforcement? Or just powerless here because I haven’t organized a tow contract for my driveway? Is that a thing I was supposed to have done??!

One company said they were scared of liability and suggested I roll it into the street so parking enforcement could get involved… I’m tempted but that feels a bit risky. Good chance it rolls into a dumpster and gets messed up.
