Did AT&T sales reps cram your phone bill? They hate this one simple fix.

Friendly PSA that if you go into an AT&T store (or other providers for that matter) and later check your phone bill, and the sales rep did a bunch of stuff like add protection plans, early upgrade plans or extra lines to your plan without your knowledge or authorization or by using deceptive practices, that’s called cramming and it’s illegal. Don’t waste your time going back into the store, but do call AT&T corporate within three days (the window when they can easily reverse charges, very important) and see what they can do. The number I called was 1-800-288-2020.

THEN (and you can do this first too) file complaints with the FCC and FTC and explain what happened. This behavior is not alright and AT&T corporate seems to take these complaints very seriously. After I got crammed at a Seattle AT&T authorized retailer, I was staring down a $500 phone bill. It’s taken weeks to sort out including spending hours on hold until I found a helpful corporate rep after calling in. But after I filed FCC/FTC complaints, the AT&T president’s office called ME within 24 hours and they fixed the remaining fraudulent and deceptive charges and changes that the in-person sales rep made. So big thanks to AT&T corporate for fixing this shitshow.

For good measure might as well report the specific retail location to the Washington State Attorney General’s Office so they can document patterns and eventually take enforcement action if they feel it’s warranted.

Hopefully this is helpful!
