A Seattle love letter
I just recently did something similar for a festival I attended and it has given me some inspiration to write out some thoughts on my recent adventures in your lovely city. I was in Seattle from Saturday morning to Wednesday night, originally arriving to catch Underworld play at the SODO Showbox and visit a few friends. Here is a short list of some of the other highlights of the trip in no particular order, but vaguely chronologically.
- Taking the 1 line and seeing all the murals around Stadium and SODO.
- Finding two tickets to see the Lambrini Girls who tore it up at the Baba Yaga.
- Visiting the Connections Museum — what an absolute gem. All the volunteers were incredibly nice and informative on a wide history of communication technology.
- Finding two Lauren YS murals in the International district.
- Getting a new tattoo from Meg @Punkyweed tattoo.
- Having a drink at the Arctic Club Hotel and getting to take a peak at the ballroom.
- Ghostfish brewing.
- The artist who makes creatures and faces using CD’s on telephone poles.
- Visiting the old Union Station.
- Strolling through the University of Washington campus.
- Having a sit down in the quiet wing of the Suzzallo Library.
- Biking over to Gas Works park and dodging all the goose shit.
- Saying hello to the Freemont and Ballard Trolls.
- Coffee on the Freemont Coffee Company balcony.
- Ballard Locks and especially seeing the nesting blue herons.
- Ferry ride to Bainbridge.
- Saying hello to Pia the Peacekeeper and Frog Rock.
- Bay Hay and Feed shirt.
- Fay Bainbridge park.
- Visiting KEXP.
- Strolling Alki Beach.
- Underworld at Showbox — Wow.
- Finding Bruun Idun.
- Pouring over and adding to the wheat paste collection near the gum wall.
- L’Oursin
- All the Art Nouveau aesthetic.
I’m sure I’m missing a handful of other little adventures we got up to on the short visit. The weather was a perfect combination of stormy, windy, sunny, and warm — depending on the hour.
If I’m blessed with making a return trip there are a few more trolls I have to find and I completely forgot to search for Kyler Martz murals and artwork that might be in the city.
Thanks for the hospitality!
