Anyone know why there are so many Redwoods & Giant Sequoias growing in urban areas of Western Washington?

I’m constantly coming across pretty large examples all over the puget sound region mainly in urban settings. I’m from SoCal and never once did i stumble across a sequoia even with being so close to their native range. I’m curious why so many were planted here when the region already has so many unique conifers.
