Shit-posting because they won’t give my application money back!
My partner and I found a rental listing online for a house in Capitol Hill that had just been posted that same day. we requested to tour and apply right away knowing that these kinds of listings go fast. After not hearing back, my partner called the management company, Arboreal Management, and asked for the application. The person answering sent us the application no problem. We applied right away—our background and financial checks came back within an hour meeting all their requirements.
next day my partner gets a text asking who we are and how we got the application first. they state multiple times that we were the first to apply BUT they had another group in mind that they preferred to give it to since that group was planning on leasing both top and bottom units of this house. after explaining our situation, the leasing agent goes “I’m gonna have to talk to my boss to see how she wants to handle this.” the next day they text back and say that although we applied first, there had been a miscommunication, and they’re just going to go ahead and give the lease to this other group.
we messaged back clarifying that both parties are aware that they’re breaking the first-come first-serve rental ordinance, and asking for our app fees. no response of course.
This company is a huge red flag, won’t even give us our $80 application fee money back. Honestly a blessing in disguise that we are not about to live under their agency.
