I created a Seattle / Washington starter pack on Bluesky. There’s not too much going at the moment, but that’s why I’m posting here, in hopes of seeing more local Seattle presence on Bluesky.
Bluesky is actually based in Seattle. It’s a twitter alternative founded by Jack Dorsey in 2019, and spun off in 2021.
Aside from not having an association with Elon Musk’s “X”, it still retains the feel of pre-Musk twitter, before they started incentivizing engagement with a profit incentive, and before they eliminated most all content moderation.
I think /r/seattle is a fine social media hub for Seattle in and of itself, but you see a lot of content on Bluesky and formerly twitter that was interesting, but not necessarily worthy of a reddit post, hence the term micro-blogging.
It would be nice to have more local and state agencies abandon “X” considering it’s overtly political nature as of the past couple years, and switch to, or cross-post to Bluesky, but it’s hard to convince them to make the move if their viewership remains low on that platform.
Hopefully if more locals join the site, Seattle area starter packs will look a lot better in a few months time.
