A sea lion came up to bask in the sun at Marina Beach Park today and this group of people were standing way too close to it. I know we all love spotting sea lions and seals but can we keep our distance? I saw people taking videos / selfies next to it, but then this kid started throwing rocks right at it while her parents watched. It was honestly really upsetting so I went up to her and told her to stop. There was another guy that saw what happened and also told her parents that they’re all standing way too close, and that she cannot be throwing rocks at it. The parents just looked at us and eventually everyone left the sea lion alone. I’m just surprised at how many people seem ignorant or choose to ignore the signs to leave wildlife alone. If the sea lion showed signs of aggression, then we would have to read about how some poor human got attacked on the news again but never hear about how humans are the ones being disrespectful first. Also hate being the person to tell others what to do but let’s please observe wildlife from a distance, and more importantly not throw rocks at them! submitted by /u/wilderlights |
