Today mods deleted a post with lots of upvotes (397) and comments (184): https://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/comments/1p4silk/ The redditor took a photo of a street in Georgetown and then used AI to imagine how the street could be redesigned or improved, but moderators deleted the post under the justification ‘no low-effort content.’ This despite the fact that the post received lots of engagement and lively conversation.
To me this seems like a subjective and arbitrarily broad rule that can be used to censor posts mods simply don’t like. If we’re going to prohibit ‘low effort’ then there’s lots of popular posts that are lower effort than this. Why don’t we ban memes? or mediocre pics of the space needle? Those are certainly no more effortful than this post. If the sub collectively agrees that we want to ban AI content, fine, but I don’t think we should do it under the false and inconsistent pretext of ‘low-effort.’
