I love cherries! Thanks to Sean (marketing person for Collins Family Orchards who posts here sometimes) who encouraged me… I went to Madrona Farmer’s Market today and bought this 10lb flat for $55. I’m a cherry fiend and normally get through 3-4lb in a sitting. My review: the dark Chelan cherries ($5/lb) are slightly on the tart side but still good. The lighter Earlier Ranier cherries ($6/lb) are at peak ripeness with excellent flavor. Both of them are flawless, without blemish or soft spots. (Also a nearby stall sold me a flat of “day old strawberries” for $10 for the entire flat, which was also pretty neat. This is the strawberry pie recipe I developed to cook with my kids when they were about 5yo – https://wischik.com/lu/kitchen/strawberry_pie.pdf – if you know how to do a pie crust, the rest is simple+fun for a child to make. I aimed for something that’d let the fresh ripeness of strawberries stand out.) submitted by /u/lucianw |
