Councilmember Rob Saka apologizes for appearing to suggest that Council has adequate Muslim representation because his grandfather was a Muslim

This is a crummy cell phone video because I pulled out my phone and started recording as soon as I realized that he was addressing this. There will be a clean version in the SeattleChannel.org archives in a few hours. His remarks came at about 2:30 pm so they’ll be about 90 minutes into the video since the meeting started at 1.

Since one of the candidates to replace Cathy Moore for D5 is a Muslim, Saka had made earlier comments suggesting that we already had adequate Muslim representation on the council because he is the grandson of a Muslim (even though he describes himself as a non-practicing Christian). Several Muslim elected leaders had co-signed a letter asking him to apologize:
