First pregnancy, ultrasound charges

We recently had our first prenatal appointment with Dr. Graham at Overlake Clinic, Bellevue, Washington. However, we were surprised to learn that they don’t perform NT scans and anatomy scans between weeks 12-13 and 20-22. Additionally, they don’t offer genetic testing in-house and instead refer patients to the Eastside Fetal Maternal Center (EMFM). We decided to undergo NIPT and carrier genetic testing, and the experience was somewhat unexpected. The testing center asked us if we wanted to pay $450 out-of-pocket for both tests or use our insurance. We opted for the latter, but were informed that our insurance might end up costing more than $450. In that case, we’d have the option to switch to out-of-pocket payment. For now, we’re okay with the arrangement, but we’ll have to wait and see what the billing amount looks like in a few weeks. After checking online reviews, we inquired about the estimated costs for ultrasounds. We were told that the NT scan would be around $1,200 and the anatomy scan would be approximately $1,600. Since we have a high-deductible insurance plan and haven’t met our deductible yet, we’re concerned about the costs.

We’re wondering if there’s a way to get the scans done at a different facility without switching doctors at Overlake Hospital. Alternatively, should we reach out to our insurance provider to determine how much they cover for ultrasounds?
