Alas, after a week or so of not visiting, I did this evening, and… It is done.
Yes, I’d held out hope city leaders could successfully negotiate with Kroger. Based upon what I saw & heard just a bit ago? It is done.
Empty(ing) shelves, crazy discounts, sullen unfamiliar workers. I heard one on the phone with a customer, “Well, since we’re closing, we don’t even know what is coming in when we unload a delivery…” I did not recognize any staff on the floor. Entire formerly well stocked sections bereft of familiar products.
It is done, and I am sad. Sad for my ‘hood, and especially car-less/elder neighbors. Sad for the whole city, to be frank. Pox upon you, Kroger. POX
