Getting rid of Meta apps, how to follow protests and local engagement?

Hello r/Seattle!

I’m dropping all the normal socials: facebook, instagram, and dropped twitter a while ago. But I struggle to find ways to stay engaged with protests and local events. Are there any fediverse people I could follow to stay up to date, substacks, or like newsletters?

Open to basically anything that isn’t Meta.
