Good news about the crime rate in Seattle. The homicide rate continues to decline significantly! Only 9 for the first 4 months of 2025. There were 12 at this time in 2024 and 19 in 2023. We are quickly approaching pre-COVID levels.
Clearly, the COVID pandemic was the overwhelming reason for a spike in crime. COVID had a monumental effect on every aspect of society especially the mental health of our nation. NO, rising crime had little to do with lack of police officers. NO it had nothing to do with a short term rhetoric about defunding the police. NO, it wasn’t because of Progressive policies in Seattle and across America.
Crime spiked because of the combination of COVID, poverty, mental health crisis and 330 million guns in America. Then toss in hyper hate and division in social media platforms fueled by the Republican Party. It was a perfect storm for violence.
Finally, we are distancing ourselves from the horrific effects of COVID but now we are approaching another pandemic, a divisive/destructive political pandemic called the Trump/Republican Party! It could easily be the most destructive event in American History at so many levels.
Seattle is a thriving/safe city that is quickly emerging from COVID. Our new downtown waterfront is spectacular and will help energize Seattle this Summer. Enjoy Seattle this Spring/Summer. With the trump regime marching in goose steps forward who knows how long the good times will last! RESIST!
