We’re in the final stretch of improvements at the I-90/SR 18 interchange, and that means a few extended weekend closures of SR 18 for final paving and striping work. Expect a mix of lane reductions, directional closures and one full closure under I-90 over the next few months, as the weather allows.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND:
- Starting at 9 p.m. Thursday, April 23rd eastbound SR 18 will fully close between Issaquah-Hobart Rd and I-90
- By 5 a.m. Monday, April 27th at least one lane is expected to reopen but expect additional work to continue in the right lane as crews reinstall guardrail, curbing and stormwater drains
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR DRIVERS:
Seattle-area travelers should prepare for a busy weekend on the roads. This eastbound SR 18 closure will take place at the same time as a weekend southbound I-405 closure in Renton.
That combination, along with ongoing I-5 lane reductions in Seattle, will likely lead to significant congestion, including in areas you may not typically associate with freeway construction such as local roads and parallel routes.
Passenger vehicles should use alternate routes and plan for added travel time.
Issaquah-Hobart Road and city streets in Issaquah are NOT suitable for freight. During the eastbound SR 18 closures, freight traffic should use alternate routes or follow the signed detour on westbound SR 169 to northbound I-405, then take eastbound SR 900 to eastbound I-90.
This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled. Schedule updates will be available on the project webpage, WSDOT’s Travel Center map and the WSDOT mobile app.
