Hey Seattle, here’s my unpopular opinion: If you want me to tip 20%, build it into the bill and call it out.

Add it to the bill as a consistent line item (“20% tip”) and don’t let me walk out of the restaurant or store until I’ve paid the bill. Don’t let it be discretionary and whimsical (up to however the customer feels) if it’s actually part of the server’s wages and something that they are counting on.
