I was getting gas and had a guy come up and ask me for money. I recognized him from a past interaction. He had mistaken me for someone else and got agressive towards me, but i told him he was confused and just walked away with nothing happening. Recognizing him, i knew right away i was gonna say no, but also be ready in case he tries anything. He just instead screams out “How am i supposed to get the drugs IF YOU WONT GIVE ME ANY MONEY!!!!!”
I think about this from time to time when it pops into my head. During an ethics class in college, when everyone was weighing in on whether to give a homeless person begging money or not, drugs were cited as a reason not to give a homeless person money. The teacher then asked the class. What if he needs the drugs? What if the withdrawal will kill him? What if he is trying to get into rehab but they wont take him because the drugs arent present in his system? It made it easier for me to give homeless people money honestly, because i didnt care if they used it for food or drugs. Whichever thing they bought, they probably needed it. So when screamed that out loud and walked away. I sat in my car thinking “man… that is some real shit. How is he supposed to get the drugs if i dont give him any money?” Then i drove home and still think about what he said from time to time. Its just the way he said it and how i was so ready for a fight… but he just said some real shit that was sad and walked away.
