I am a guy in my early 20s with a non-REAL ID compliant ID (I.e., it is a horizontal license that says “Federal limits apply” at the top and doesn’t have the gold star/numbering at the bottom). I have been turned away from multiple bars in the past 24 hours, with bartenders claiming that my ID is a fake. I can assure you it isn’t. I know in some places they’ll turn you away if you have an out-of-state ID, which I can sort of understand, but mine is from Washington. Indeed, I’ve lived in Seattle almost my entire life.
Do any bartenders or servers in the area know why this keeps happening to me? Do I really need to upgrade to a Real ID to get drinks in Seattle? I’ve resorted to bringing my passport with me to bars; so far, no troubles with that.
