Found this out while I had to rent a car while mine is at the shop so I thought I’d pass it on:
Apparently Seattle law allows all car rental places in the city to overbook by 15% due to no shows for appointments (similar to airlines). Even if you have a reservation, if you show up and there are no cars there is nothing they can do. Car rental employees are apparently forced to deal with the aftermath.
A couple traveling to Olympic National Park got to my local Enterprise at 1 PM and they were turned away at the door.
Shouldn’t be legal, but it is. So I’d assume your best bet is to get to the dealership early in the morning while all of the overnight drop-offs are still there.
