Just need to share this – things are hard and scary.

I ran into a woman last night living in her car. She has two large dogs. Today I went to Ballard food bank and used one of my free meals for her, and asked for some resources to give to her. Then I went to her car and introduced myself and gave her the stuff. I learned more about her. Her car broke down and she’s trying to move to California. Today is her birthday.

I gave her my business card so she can contact me if she needs anything. Im also going to help train her dogs (I’m a dog trainer), both are reactive and too big for her to control. There’s already been an accident and she’s been given a citation. Tomorrow I’m going to help her address it.

Why am I doing this I ask myself? Because I see myself in her. If it wasn’t for the help of my family, I would be homeless right now. Things are tough right now. I haven’t gotten a board and train yet, that’s a big source of my income. I’m staying afloat with private lessons and boarding dogs. I’m barely able to cover my bills. This is why I’m going to the Ballard food bank for groceries and to get two hot free meals. I’m scared, maybe I’m distracting myself in helping her. I do know I don’t want her to lose her dogs. When I was homeless with my Doberman Baloo, after getting back here from Florida and surviving DV, Baloo helped me to get out of bed and to keep trying. He kept me grounded and not feel alone. I know those dogs are her everything and I don’t want her to lose hope by losing them.

I’ll learn more tomorrow when I talk with her. She has a go fund me for her car, I’ll get that info and share it. I’m also going to ask around my dog friends to see if we can get some stuff for her dogs.

I just feel sad and heavy for how things are for everyone. Maybe helping her is also helping me. Thanks for reading.
