I’m going into this post fully knowing that I might just have been wrong and lucky in the past, but here we go. Did something happen with Seattle events recently that led to a stricter knitting needle/crochet hook policy at arenas and theaters? I went to a Kraken game a couple weekends ago and there was a bit of discussion at the door about allowing my knitting needles (wood, not at all sharp) into the game with security, but they ultimately let me through, citing that if it was a crochet hook it definitely wouldn’t have been allowed, though there was a comment about knitting needles being “talked about in the meeting this morning”. I’ve brought my needles into Climate Pledge multiple times before without issue (even checked their bag policy before to verify that it was all good), but checked after the game and saw that knitting needles and crochet hooks were now on the prohibited items list. Today, I was looking at the bag policy for the Paramount for a show I was going to there, and knitting needles and crochet hooks have now been added to their prohibited items list as well (I’ve also knit at this theater too). Was there some kind of weird, craft-related stabbing incident that happened locally that I missed? Was I lucky in the past and these policies have always been in place? Is it just a coincidence?
To clarify, because I fear people will have comments about this specifically, I don’t usually knit during the show that I am there to see, it’s just a time killer before the show and/or between acts. I understand people around me might find this distracting while the show is happening and people also have the misconception that I might not be paying attention to other things while knitting. While I could definitely pay attention to a whole concert and knit at the same time, I don’t want to be the reason someone has a bad experience, so I don’t knit while the show is actively happening.
