Light Rail Incident on 10/24
I wanted to share an incident that happened to me on the light rail and make a PSA. Please stay vigilant and be aware of your surroundings.
On Saturday, I boarded the light rail at around 8am to head to Downtown for work. I sat down on the 2-seater area in-between the glass that’s next to the door and special needs area. Since it was the weekend, there was barely anyone on the light rail at that time. I was minding my business scrolling on my phone when I see a guy walk from behind me to the area in front of me and he seems to be hesitating going back and forth. I don’t pay him any attention. And he decides he wants to punch the window in front of me and at that point I’m a little scared, being a woman and only 5’1. I pretended I didn’t see anything. He then left for the back of the car and came back around and sat down next to me. He then asks me about my husband’s nationality. He would continue to go back and forth and sometimes still try to sit next to me. I felt the need to respond to him because I was scared he’d get agitated if I ignored him. My hearts pounding and I am scared. And throughout this, no one said anything or tried to see if I needed help, I know they could’ve been scared too. I was also afraid that if anything happened, maybe no one would’ve helped me then too? I made sure to get off at a stop where I could see transit security. I got off at Capitol Hill and got back on the next light rail to work. I was also worried that he might’ve noticed I got off and maybe try to wait for me at the next stop. Thankfully, I lost him after that. I now have the transit security # saved on my phone for future emergencies and I will have to carry my pepper spray in my pockets from now on.
